Copper State Credit Union is dedicated to not only serving the needs of our members but also the communities we serve. We believe it is our responsibility to give back to our communities and that includes helping children right here where we live and work - making a difference for our neighbors. The first and primary of our core values is Family -- our Copper State Credit Union family of employees, the member-families we serve, and the families in our communities.
For seven years Copper State Credit Union has proudly supported Arizona Helping Hands during the holiday season. Arizona Helping Hands is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing for the basic needs of the 14,000+ children in our state’s foster care system. They provide a one-stop-shop that not only helps prepare families who are about to foster for the first time, but the agency is there for these families even after that. From clothing to toys, diapers, wipes, books, school supplies and even furniture - Arizona Helping Hands spends 93 cents of every donated dollar on their programs, and receives no governmental funding. It is projected that the number of children in foster care will grow over the coming months as school resumes, and pressures on family units continue to mount.
In August and September of 2020, more than 900 children entered the state’s foster care system. That’s an incredible 30 children each and every day who were removed from their predicaments due to instances of abuse and neglect. So many young lives whose very existence was disrupted because of circumstances beyond any child’s control. In one week, Arizona Helping Hands distributes over 2,400 diapers and 3,000 wipes.
Robb Scott, President and CEO of Copper State Credit Union, said “At the end of the day, this program is serving the community and the children. These children are going to grow up and be the people who are going to lead this country. As long as children are abused and neglected, and as long as drug and alcohol addictions riddle our society, there will be a need for foster care.”
During our recent Send the Love Diaper Drive in affiliation with Channel 12, we raised over 250,000 diapers. To date, we have delivered over one million diapers thanks to our employees, members. Board of Directors, partners and friends in our communities. We strongly believe in the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.”
Dan Schufelt, CEO of Arizona Helping Hands, stated “Many are looking forward to turning the calendar to 2021. This year has brought us challenges and issues we could never have imagined, and there are many reasons to want to put 2020 in the rearview mirror. Despite the pandemic (or maybe because of it) our community shows its heart. We endeavor to make lives better for kids in foster care. I am blown away by how generous the Phoenix community is to Arizona Helping Hands.”
